White shadows

It's a white world again over here! YAK! But ..... the sun came along and I managed to capture some shadows. First of all the shadows of two biking guys, then the shadows of sleeping horses and to finish it off the shadows of a row of trees!

Enjoy! and have a mighty joyful Sunday!

Take care: slippery road!
Can't imagine it to be nice and warm where they are sleeping! Brrrr.Noted the shadows of these little trees that have just been planted here a few days ago.

Photo hunter - Spotted

It's been a while since I joined photo hunter but today I couldn't refrain from posting. The theme made me think of this beautiful spotted butterfly I took a picture of some time ago in the butterfly garden at the zoo.

On my way home

On my way home this evening, after having spent two study days inside a hotel, I realized it was freezing cold outside! The sun has been shining the whole day and I nearly missed it!

Still I was lucky enough to see the beauty of the setting sun. I couldn't resist and simply had to stop the car several times to enjoy and capture some nice shots!

The girl with the dragon tattoo

This book has been on my reading list for some time now. It's part one of the Millennium Trilogy. Three detective novels written by Stieg Larsson.

Last week I finally found the time and peace to start reading. It took me some pages to really get into The girl with the dragon tattoo, but after that I couldn't put the book away and finished reading it in less than a week.

Now I've started reading the second book The girl who played with fire and this book is even better. It has enthralled me from the very first page and it's even harder to put aside!

Stieg Larsson has a way of writing that makes you become totally immersed with the characters and the sequence of the events. It's a fantastic read so for those of you who like reading: GIVE IT A GO! You won't regret it!

Shadows of freakish looking trees

On this drousy Sunday morning no shadows to be seen over here in Holland so I looked through my collection. See here what I found shadows of freakish looking trees in Carcassonne, France. The men on the picture are playing the traditional jeu de boules game.
Heh this brings back memories of warm, sunny holidays! :)

A toast to 2010!

The yearly toast to the new year, that the company I work for usually organizes in the 2nd week of January, took place in the above nostalgic building. It might surprise you but inside it is very spacious and modern coloured all in black and white with candles and lights everywhere!
Besides toasting to the new year we also had enough to eat. Above you can see the way the starters were presented and whoever felt like something to eat could pick his/her favourite plate and eat what's on it. Mmmm it looked good but tasted even better! As an extra attraction there was a lightning sketcher making black and white pencil sketches. LOL he made funny cartoon like portraits!
On the other side of the hall there was the meat and fish corner where you could get something warm and hot to eat! Also very delicious! In other corners there was soup to get and salads. To finish it off there was coffee served with a very small icecream and a chocolate lollipop. Sorry but it was gone before I could think of taking a photo!
And last but not least we were sent home with a new year's box filled with tasty goodies!

Shadow face

It's shadow shot Sunday again. The past week I tried capturing a shadow shot in the little time we saw the sun. And see here what I noticed: a man's face on the wall! Can you see it too, his hair, his eye, his nose and his beard?

The whole picture was nice too, so here it comes. Thanks for visiting and enjoy your Sunday!

Siberian temperatures

Brrr it's freezing cold in Holland. The sun does come up but the days are mostly gloomy, gray and very cold. Everywhere you look it's white and roads are very slippery. A real winter! Best place to be is inside with a good book or take off to the sun (like my folks did today).

Our friends, the horses, across the road have been collected a week ago as they have to be fed daily now that snow covers the field. I guess the owner took them closer home so he could take care of them. Funny how we got so used to them in such a short time. It was fun seeing them approach at a trot and even whinny when we would give them our old bread and at times apples and carrots! Hope they'll be back soon.

Today the wind is freezing cold too and weather forecasts are warning for the extreme feel of coldness outside! I went through by bike to do some shopping and on my way back I noticed the gulls in the water and the whiteness all around.

Wall sculpture

This is the view from one of the windows in our office. The wall sculpture can be found on the adjacent school building. This building will be broken down next year when the new school building will be ready for use. Wonder if they will preserve this sculpture or if it will simply disappear with the building. Here's a closer look at the sculpture.

Down memory lane

While looking for a picture of Gozo the other day I came across these two pictures of my mum. Both pictures are taken in Nadur Heights in 1976. Above you can see what a beautiful view we enjoyed when living there. The picture below shows my mum near her red car.

4 January 1975

Hard to believe today it's 35 years ago that my parents and us kids moved to Gozo, a little isle in the Mediterranean Sea. I couldn't have imagined on that day that I would grow to love that beautiful island and really feel at home there. My how I hated to leave all my friends and family behind in Holland to go and live in a country which I never heard of before and where I couldn't make myself understood. In my diary I saved the boarding pass of that day and wrote down that we travelled with two planes to get to Malta. Flying over the Alps impressed me a lot that day and we enjoyed taking a look in the cockpit of the plane.

On this picture, taken in 1976, the Melitaland is entering Mgarr harbour, Gozo. Not the boat we travelled on 35 years ago for that was the Jylland. Couldn't find a picture of that boat in my collection. Later we crossed over many times with the Melitaland which was more a good weather boat.

Shadows inside

More shadows inside, in a new year,
outside it's a white world again,
making it look very poetic!
Still I don't like the white stuff
and can't wait for better days to come!

Thanks for visiting and enjoy your Sunday!

Happy New Year!

Enjoying the evening and waiting for the new year to come!
Here it is: CHEERS AND A HAPPY 2010 TO ALL!

"Another fresh New Year is here ...
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt and fear,
To love and laugh and give!

This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest...
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!

I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!"

Quote: William Arthur Ward
