Startpage

Right now this is my startpage when going onto the world wide web. Am so looking forward to going to Malta in a short time but the weatherforecast is not exactly as I would like it to be.

Over here it looked and felt like Autumn today: rain, wind, cold and very dreary, yak! All kind of things I don't like. So here I am dreaming of shortly enjoying the sun in Malta and getting the feel of a late summer. Unfortunately on seeing this weatherforecast I guess the only difference is the temperature!

Photo hunter - view

Many views come to mind for this weeks photo hunter. In the end I decided to share this photo taken in 2000 when we were on summer holidays in Austria. Note SUMMER holidays and see what clothes the kids were wearing. Will never forget that summer for it was oh so cold and I hated seeing the snow level coming lower and lower. Nonetheless on top of this mountain the view was absolutely breathtaking.

Peace Palace

This is the Peace Palace in The Hague.
Can't remember ever seeing it before and I have been in The Hague more than once. LOL! The sighn outside the gate caught my attention and I agree wholeheartedly!

Scheveningen

While in The Hague on Tuesday we also cycled through Schevingen. Though the North Sea can't compete with the Mediterranean I always enjoy going near the sea. There was hardly any wind so it was a perfect day to cycle by. You could see that summer is slowly coming to an end as most beachhouses have closed part of their caf├ęs.

This is the Kurhaus in Schevening as seen from the beach.
A sand sculpture that must be a left over of the annual competition.
One of the many beachhouses.
In the distance you can see the Schevingen pier.
The main entrance of the Kurhaus. It is a lovely building.

Wordless Wednesday - 'Poop' cleaner

After all those horses passed by..... here comes the 'poop' cleaner. Well that's what we called it not knowing a better name for this little car.

Annual speech

On our way into the city of The Hague.
Waiting near Noordeinde Palace for the Golden Carriage to pass.
The first horses.
Military escort.
More horses.
Carriage with members of the Royal Family.
Even more horses.
The Golden Carriage approaching.
I thought I took a good picture of the Carriage and its passengers! But didn't realise the windows turned out as mirrors in this shot. LOL!
There the Golden Carriage goes.
Escorted by even more horses.
This is where they are all going, to the Binnenhof for the annual speech of the Queen.
In the evening, before returning home we cycled over the Binnenhof and here is the Knight's Hall where the Queen held her annual speech.
A last look at Noordeinde Palace before we returned home.

Photo hunter - wild

This is the wild berm in front of our house. I've tried very often to spread seeds of wild flowers here to give this berm more colour but dogs keep doing their thing here so the colourful wild flowers have no chance.
The next picture gives an impression ot he whole wild berm along our road. Behind the berm there is a field with wild grass. The owner doesn't mow the grass anymore because the zoning of the land changed from agricultural into low-density housing.

Mediterranean corner

This is the little mediterranean corner in our garden.
A pity the oleander didn't flower much this summer.
But the prickly-pear-cactus grew new pads and has plenty of cactus fruits.

Blue sky

The sky was so blue yesterday I just had to take a picture of it. But I wondered in what way. In the end I crouched on the ground trying to take a picture from beneath two flowers and see here the results.
On the next photo you can see that I had to take the pictures at a certain angle for the sky was not completely cloudless. But still it was bluer then what we had most of this summer and it was great to enjoy this sunny weather on my day off.

Horse ballet

Before our son got interested in horses I never knew much about these animals. Yesterday he was asked to help at the dressage competition in our town. He asked me to come along to have a look and take some pictures. On the above picture he is the one with the red cap. Of course he has a favourite participant and that's the girl on the right horse. Here she and another horserider are preparing for the competition.
This is another participant after doing the dressage test. And this is Anne doing the test on William.
Wow she really can make that horse dance!

Cow watching

To get my much needed exercise I decided to go cycling this morning. When on my way I noticed all these police and traffic controls passing by. All of a sudden there was a voice telling me to cycle faster because I would be beaten by 700 cyclists. On turning around I saw them nearing me on the main road. I stopped to take some pictures (see below) and after taking the last picture I noticed these cows, they made me grin for they seemed to have been watching too. :)

Photo hunter - string(s)

Just in case you think these are very expensive jewels: no they are not! These strings of beads are very precious to me because they were made by my mother-in-law who passed away in March of this year. Though I hardly wear these strings I cherish them very much especially recalling the joy she had in making them for me.On one string she even attached a bead in the shape of a book because she knew about my love of reading.
