Pitch & Putt

Today we had a lovely family day. We went to play Pitch & Putt in the wonderful Dutch countryside. The weather was just perfect and we had great fun. For those who don't know, Pitch & Putt is an amateur sport similar to golf. The maximum lenght of hole is shorter than with real golf. Besides that the players may only use an iron and a putter. The rules of the game.
We walked around and around and so ended up making many km's.
Up to the next tee.
Ah there is the place to be after a long afternoon out in the fields.
Playing sport makes one hungry. So here's mum preparing meat on the barbecue for the whole bunch of us. It was a great day mum and dad: THANKS!

Photo hunter - bright

You might have missed me today but that's because today was my first free day in weeks and I took some time off to go into town and later I read a romantic novel: Sleeping arrangements by Madeleine Wickham. A funny book that was just right for my present mood.

This week I did my exams and the first one was really hard to make. Good thing the second exam went much better for at least that restored my self esteem. Afterwards I went into Arnhem and had a cappuccino and a sandwich at a sidewalk cafe. Oh just the freedom I felt. No more studies for a few weeks.
Of course I had to go into a bookstore and that's where I bought that book written by Madeleine Wickham.

Now about this photo hunter post: bright. On my way to do some shopping this week I passed this area which not long ago was fully build with houses. After the demolition of all those houses they intend to build a new multifunctional location there but so far there are just all these bright flowers. It is a wonderful sight and every morning on my way to work I enjoy seeing all those bright colours in that empty field.

Photo hunter - water

While in the zoo yesterday I saw lots of water besides the many animals. Before I knew it my son of 12 and his nephew of 7 were hanging above the water having the time of their lives! Not me though for I worried what would happen just in case they fell in. They have their swimming diploma's so that's not the worry but they didn't bring an extra set of clothes along. Besides that the youngest nephew of 2 always wants to do what the elder kids do and I just couldn't have that.It was hard to make them walk on and leave this fabulous place.

This girl is wondering what these stepping stones are supposed to do. This boy knew without being told. By just jumping on that high stone the water squirted out on all sides.
And these kids are having even more water fun.
But see that little kid in the white shirt high above the water on the left in the picture. Well that's the 2 year old (nearly 3) and he isn't afraid at all. At a certain moment he misstepped and one foot "fell" through the ropes. My son helped him get his foot back on and made him continue. After that I took them away from that lovely water playground as fast as possible.

Yep water is not only for drinking but brings lots of fun and worries too!

Day at the zoo

A few months ago our supermarket had an action for free zoo tickets. Just by doing normal shopping I saved enough to get two free tickets and as our youngest had the day off today we decided to go to the zoo. We asked our two nephews to come along and so they did. The weather was just perfect. We had great fun and saw many animals.

There were many young animals in the zoo but these monkeys were oh so cute cuddling their little one between them. Here is a closeup so you can see for yourself.

Photo hunter - emotion(s)

Am so glad my kids enjoy taking closeups of themselves for otherwise I wouldn't have known what to post for today's PH. As you can see they are expressing a surprised emotion on the left picture and experiencing the emotion of fun on the right picture.

Driving a tractor

Our youngest really loves everything that's outside in the fields. He is crazy about horses and now there is this farmer who lives outside town and could use a little help. He learns him the farming business and here he is teaching him how to drive a tractor. There he goes!

Yes ... he did it !!

It was a day filled with tension!! If our eldest son did not get a phonecall between 16.00 and 17.00 hour he would have passed for his secondary school!!

he phone didn't ring so the flag went out and as is a Dutch custom the schoolbag with it.

ongratulations dear son, for getting your secondary school diploma!!

Football crazy

The first matches of the Euro 2008 were played yesterday and Holland will play it's first match tomorrow evening. But for many weeks already it seems as if the orange fever has hit this country. Houses and even whole streets are decorated and wherever you look there are orange things.

In the supermarket free orange stuff is given away, like hats, scarfs, whistles, etc. so that we can dress up in orange when watching the matches.

This afternoon we cycled around and I took some pictures to share with whoever visits this blog.

The picture above is the doorway to the following café which has fully covered its frontside with an orange screen.

Even the bike standing next to the café is orange!

And see that street: orange flags everywhere.

We cycled on through the wonderful countryside. The weather was really nice.

Ah and last but not least our car has a little orange crown on the towbar!! Now say for yourself are we football crazy or not??

Well let's see how the players will play! Here's wishing all football fans lots of fun!

Barbecue weather

After following an exam training the whole morning it was time to enjoy the nice weather this afternoon.

From Zwolle I drove to some friends of ours in Arnhem and my hubby came by bike. It was the first time in 16 years that our kids didn't come along so we were just the four of us! That felt really good as we were able to talk without being interrupted. In the meantime our friend prepared food on the barbecue and all we had to do was sit, eat, drink and chat. Oh it felt great!

Photo hunter - bad hair

Sorry, I won't be joining photo hunter this week, though I could have taken a picture of my own hair. Now that it is slowly turning gray it is feeling like straw at times, besides that it is oh so dry. Amazingly for when I was so much younger it used to be very greasy!! Go figure!!

At the moment I'm quiet busy with my studies and it is costing me loads of time. Oh I'll be glad when the exams will be over again in about 2 weeks time. Am already looking forward to reading a good book or two to studying all those law books!! In fact I bought Sepulchre the other day and the reviews are really good. Won't start reading now though for I can imagine myself not being able to put it away!

Because of my studies I am also missing out on the lovely weather that we have had and still have. In fact it has been feeling summerlike for a long time now and it is making me worried about what summer is going to bring. Tonight we made a nice bikeride on our mountainbikes and it was terrific. After that I couldn't put myself to study and I joined my daughter watching Notting Hill and watched the life of a bookshop owner change after meeting a famous film star. Sweet romantic movie with laughable parts in it at times. We really enjoyed ourselves watching it.

This week I also joined Facebook. Through this weblog more former boarders found me and joined the St Alumni Site we made. Besides that we are trying to find more people through Facebook.

OK time to go and have a rosé outside and enjoy a little more of this summer evening! Cheers!

Thanks for popping by and have a great weekend!

Wordless Wednesday - Hot air balloons

These hot air balloons flew by the other evening just in front of our house.
