Fire friend

After Autumn like weather the whole week, the weather seems to be getting a little better though the weather forecast is still promising us more rain.

This evening it wasn't too cold and with our newly bought fire friend close by we were even able to enjoy a cup of coffee outside.

This feels really good, sitting here, enjoying a good book and the warmth of a fire.

Time to relax

Funny after having been so busy for such a long time it really feels queer having back some free time. When in the midst of my studies I never notice how much time it is really costing me but now that I don't have to study it feels strange.

Not that I have nothing to do but something seems to be missing. There are things that really need to be done around the house and garden that I just let be while studying and I had no problems doing so. But now that there is enough time to do them again they keep looking at me and I can't make myself do them.

When I returned home from work this afternoon and saw that the sun was shining nicely the first thing I did was get out the lazy chair and enjoy a nice cup of tea outside in the sun simply doing nothing else. It really felt good and I even fell asleep for a little while. Oh that gorgeous sun felt really great!

The coming days I will surely start picking up the things that need to be done but for now I am just cherishing my free time and looking forward to more to come when summer holidays will start in a few weeks time.

Sad and melancholic

This is unbelievable for the moodtest says I am in a good mood, but I am not!! I still didn't overcome yesterday's exam but that's nothing compared to the terrible news my mum gave me yesterday evening about two people I knew well and who are now both terminal patients.

What world is this we are living in??

So I am definitely not in a good mood but am feeling rather sad and melancholic today. Sorry to say.

You Are In a Good Mood

Today, you're feeling pretty together and happy.

While not everything is going you're way, you're keeping things in perspective.

And it seems like things are looking up for you!

Study, study, study

This could have been me in the past weeks. Studying, studying, studying. All my free time!
Last week I did my first exam and the feeling is good about that one.
But today .............. the second exam! It made me feel very depressed. After preparing so well I really had the feeling that I would be able to do it with no difficulty, but .................... that was before I saw the exam and realized they managed to ask a question about every little irrelevant thing in the book! Can you image how mad this is making me??? At first I wanted to just leave the examination hall but I managed to stay seated and continue trying to save what could be saved. However that's not much in my poor opinion. All those hours studying for such an exam is really infuriating me!!
I know there are worse things, but right now I am feeling terrible about this. The only good bit is that the books can be put away on the topfloor for the summer. What summer???? It looks like Autumn outside! Rain and wind and low temperatures.
I'll leave it at this for now, perhaps tomorrow the sun will shine again on all sides!

While I was at home preparing for my second exam this coming Tuesday my husband and youngest son were asked to join a "puzzletour" with horse and carriage. This is a tour were you have to do certain tasks just for the fun of it. The tour went through a lovely countryside and they were lucky for it remained dry the whole tour and they really enjoyed taking part.

The day didn't start as early as we thought it would for the little ones woke up around 7.15 a.m. and that's not bad at all. Their parents were really surprised and we told them it must be the good air here in the East of Holland (pssssssssst we didn't tell them we woke them up again after they left and let them walk up and down the stairs several times before putting them back into bed, see what that exercise was good for!).

No that's not true for I am just joking but we were pleased they didn't wake us that early on Sunday morning. After waking up the day passed very quickly and here you see it is nearly 6 p.m. and our backyard is waiting for the hard workers to come and eat. Can you imagine: here we were waiting with the food ready on time, goes the phone: "we are coming half and hour later!" What to do with chickenburgers that are already good enough to eat! I turned the fire a little lower but couln't prevent some of them getting a little black. When they finally came they didn't seem to mind at all for they were hungry enough!

Just now I cleaned up the mess and I will see if I can get myself to study a little for my first exam is this coming Thursday. But ............... I think I will leave the studying bit for today and go and sit outside, with my feet high while enjoying a nice and cold "Rosé d'Anjou". Mmmmmmmmmmmm

My brother and his family are busy in their new home at the moment. They are moving from the centre of Holland to the East (near the German border). They will be coming to live only 15 minutes by car from where we live and that is the first time in my life that family lives so close by.
At the moment our household is also very chaotic because of their moving but it is also very "gezellig". A typical Dutch word for fun time! Our shower has never been used so much! Even this evening we had 6 extra people taking a shower for they still don't have warm water in their new home. Besides that the whole family is spending the night here so that means 5 extra beds around the house. Well that is fun but there is only a slight bad part and that is that they have "early morning kids" and we are not used to that anymore. Not that I wake up that late in the morning but according to my sister-in-law their kids are even earlier than me. We shall see tomorrow morning and who cares anyway for it is fun having them around the house. Tomorrow their kids are staying here while my brother and his wife will be working in their house. Of course before picking them up in the evening they would like to have a nice, hot meal and they are bringing two more people along to eat here. So that means preparing a meal for 12 people. That did keep me occupied for a while wondering what I should prepare that everybody likes to eat and also easy to prepare. I think I managed to find something.
Don't worry about me because I am enjoying all this and am finding it a very "gezellig" time. Hope the little guy of nearly 2 years old will not be too sad tomorrow when he sees his mum and dad leaving him here. At least his brother and sister are staying here too and that makes it easier om him. It is so nice having them around the house and go back to taking care of little kids for a day.
Wishing all of you a nice Sunday!

Nice and quiet around the house

Our youngest is spending the weekend at footballcamp and that means it is very quiet around the house.

My husband is helping out around the camp and our other son is helping my brother and my sister-in-law in their new house.

So it is a girl's climate around this house: nice and quiet! Perfect for me to catch up with my studies. In the background I am listening to Roger Hodgson's CD "In the eye of the storm" which I ordered from

Must say I am liking his music.

P.S. Don't misunderstand me for I love to have everybody around the house so the nice and quiet bit is just for a weekend good but not much longer for I would start missing all the normal happenings that make this household very chaotic at times!
